Improving Environmental Performance through KPIs

Article Post Date: 2015

PMI provides a system for all of their suppliers to assess their environmental performance through comprehensive Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The KPIs measure energy and water consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste reduction and recycling. This system allows them to make and track environmental improvements year after year.

Factories are assessed and compared on a per 10,000 units of production basis, which allows performance to be tracked independently of growth. Performance tables for two Brazilian factories (PMI Rio and PMI Manaus), joint-venture factory (PMI Joinease), three Chinese contract factories (Factory A, C & D) and one packaging supplier (SUB 1) are found above. The environmental KPIs are also displayed in the Tableau dashboard below. Factory B, included in previous reports, is no longer part of PMI’s supply chain.
